Read MoreFun, fitness, delicious food and relaxation in a luxurious and exclusive resort sound like a great vacation right? What if I told you that you are definitely wrong about that fact? Well, my experience started a while back, and it all revolved around gardening. Health was always my concern and city life wasn’t going to help at all. Gardening has helped me reap what I sowed. It offers great full body exercise and also helps you reconnect not only with your loved ones but also nature.
Imagine a healthy diet free from pesticide and one filled with fiber rich ingredients and antioxidants. Isn’t that great? Well, let me take through some of the benefits of gardening that helped me improve my health
Have you ever heard that the most affordable and efficient way to improve your mental health is through nature? I was used to too much office work which at times was very stressing, but after I indulged myself in gardening, I would feel stress-free. Getting my hands dirty with the soil as I planted my favorite flowers relieved my stress entirely. It always felt like I was bonding with nature and also improved my sleep patterns. I always woke up fresh the next day.
My age didn’t matter when I started gardening. All I know is that through garden work, I felt stronger each day I would work in my garden. It did strengthen my joints, bones and even muscles. For instance, I would do weeding, water my plants and even do some digging. I felt lots of energy in my body which was a great advancement. Going to the gym wasn’t my option no more, since the garden made it all possible for me. The most gracious thing is that I never got sick and the real trick was always to get physical in my garden.
>My obsession for gardening grew along with the interest of visitors wanting to see how my garden was doing, and before I knew it, it had grown to a weekend farm stay and also an agritourism center. As much as I loved taking my time for a walk in my lovely garden, it also became an attraction to my friends and relatives. They loved camping in my garden as they enjoyed the fresh breeze from my plantations. Relaxation in the garden not only relieved my stress but it also got my mind and others from the usual city life.
What you eat determines your health, but how would you differentiate between healthy foods and unhealthy ones? The simple answer is through growing some of these foods by yourself. Through gardening, I came to realize that some of these foods we consume are highly toxic due to the chemical fertilizers that are usually used during plantation. Gardening enabled me to choose the best organic fertilizers to use wisely. On the other hand, natural pesticides were a good choice if I wanted a better health. Garden vegetables and fruits proved to be more nutritious, and this added to better and improved health.
Gardening proved to be very beneficial not only for my health alone but for my children as well. Soil experts have proven that soil contains bacteria and germs which increase the immune strength, especially if one is exposed to these microorganisms at a lesser age. My young ones who usually enjoy playing with soil are my biggest fans when am working in the garden. I tend to forget at times, and I end up joining the fun too.
I can describe gardening as the ultimate antidote that surpasses the modern world. Being out there connects one with nature and at the same time improves one’s health in many ways. These are different ways through which gardening benefited and helped me to improve my health.
