How to Get Your Kids Involved In Vacation Planning

After a very stressful and tedious schooling life these days, every child deserves a well-planned vacation. For kids, getting involved in planning a vacation can be as interesting and learning curve. Nothing gets children more excited than having family fun and learning about new tourist destinations especially the ones they have seen in television or read about. For your kids to really enjoy their vacation, you must create a way of getting them involved in the planning from start to finish.

“You might think your kids are too young for this, but I am glad to tell you that we are in the jet age where the thing you had never imagined are becoming realities so as your children are also getting smarter than you had expected. You must have them actively participate in the planning and packing for your trip”

planning a vacation for kidsI have few tricks for you on how I get my little ones involved in planning our family vacation. Firstly, if it is the first time of such vacation, you have to define what a vacation is to them. And give them particular reasons why it is very necessary for a family to go on short trip vacation, try to let them know holiday gives them exposure and more often try to practice some of the things they are being thought in school. Give them certain examples, for my kids, I try to let them know, a vacation can either be local or international, the local will be within the boundaries of our country while the latter is beyond. Give them possible examples, like tourism in which they only visit maybe museums and monuments just for sight-seeing or Agritourism where visitor can choose from wide range of activities that include picking fruits and vegetable, riding horses, tasting honey, learning about cheese making or shopping in farm gift shops and farm stands or working on farmlands in return to stay in the farm guest house for free.

“During usual evening story telling or conversation of how our day went, I ask my kids, where do you want to go on vacation? Most times I get the same answer, then I tried to expand the conversation by suggesting new destinations”

After a while, we all decided on a location then I told them to do a little research on it. Few weeks after they shared what they had learned then I added little input telling them which activities we can do together as a family. We sat together to draw out a nice plan, outlining places to eat, swim and catch fun. After that had been done, I brought out our family vacation budget, so I told my kids to compare it with what we both outlined, it was somewhat similar we only had to make little adjustments. We both agreed on whether to get travel funds so we could double our fun during our vacation.

Before we embarked on our journey, my kids were already super excited because they had participated from start of the holiday, during our three weeks holiday we were guided by our vacation budget. The following morning after we completed our vacation my kids were already saying, Dad, can we begin to plan our next vacation. I got fulfilled and happy knowing that, my children really enjoyed their time out. Getting your kids involved in planning your vacation plays a vital role on how they describe to their friends in school. Make sure you try this on your next trip, it works.
