Situated in northern coastline of Maharashtra, Kashid is one of the cleanest & beautiful beaches in India. Given its vicinity & easy accessibility from the metros; Kashid is soon climbing high on the popularity charts of locals tourists.
The place offers the calmness of a virgin beach as well as the adventures of sea surfing & countryside exploring. The lush green landscapes of the village & its hinterlands make tourists fall in love with this small Konkani marvel. The might Murud Janjira fort is a stone’s throw away from this beach & is definitely a major tourist attraction along with other Portuguese forts. This iconic fort of the Nizamshahi dynasty has a rich history & the architecture is a marvel in itself! It is still one of the strongest marine forts in India & has been built on an oval-shaped island in the 17th century. The only access to the fort is by boats from the adjacent ports like Rajapur jetty.
Phansad is the ideal place for a stroll in the wilderness among the chirping calls of birds & lush green surroundings. Avid nature lovers can be in for a treat as the sanctuary not only is home to many colorful birds but also has some rare insects, amphibians & mammals.
Revdanda is a secluded charming beach. The fort is an old Portuguese one & is mostly in ruins covered extensively by creepers & seaweed. However, it exudes an old world charm & is a good place to visit. The beach is idyllic & worth spending a relaxing evening on the sand watching fishing boats return.
This ancient fortification sits atop a mountain & offers excellent views of the beach & seas beyond. This old Portuguese architecture is a standing memorial of the rich battling history that this place must once have witnessed. Watching a sunrise or sunset from the lighthouse nearby is an experience in itself.
It is just 30 km from another popular tourist destination – Alibaug & just 135 km from Mumbai on the Mumbai – Murud road. From Pune, you can reach via Tamhini Ghat towards Roha & Murud. The journey by road is scenic throughout & is highly recommended for the nature lovers.
Kashid is best explored when staying with the locals. There are limited hotels & resorts here & thus their prices are considerably higher too. Farmstays with locals are the best bet when exploring Kashid as one gets enough exposure to experience the warm hospitality of the bountiful Konkanis. The local markets here are charming & have seashell & coconut shell handicrafts for sale. Also available are the yummy Konkan products & snack items. Since most of these products are made by villagers, you can request your host to sell you some goodies like kokum sherbet or amla/mango candy before leaving the farmstay.
